The free, four hour camps that we hold are comprised of four different one hour segments, which are:
Funtastic learning workshops - these learning exercises are designed to incorporate basic learning skills with fun aspects of youngsters lives today, hopefully resulting in improved learning, reading, writing, spelling and comprehension. Remember that one teacher you had that made you feel like their class and the style that they taught you inspired and motivated you to learn? That's what we're trying to duplicate here!
Arts & crafts - personally my favorite. Why is it that some of the more important & beautiful aspects of our society today are always the areas that have their funding diminished or taken away completely? In my mind, the Greeks and Romans had it right- they believed that theatre, comedy, painting, sculpture, singing, dancing and poetry were and are today some of the more beautiful and necessary parts of our lives; and without them life would be boring and uneventful! We feel that by incorporating some of these arts and crafts in our program, it will inspire our camp attendees to use this half of their brains, which is just as vital and important as using the other part.
Safe athletic activities - aside from our national health, diet, exercise and nutritional epidemic that estimates that 20-30% of all Americans are either overweight or obese, we see the importance of breaking up the listening and learning aspects of the camps by having the children at the camps get up, start moving and getting their blood flowing! We also see the merit in having children learn the value of teamwork and getting along with their peers, classmates, neighbors, teammates and friends. This is done in a fun way!
V.I.P. guest speakers - this is the most important aspect of the camp in my mind! In addition to some of the "pillars" in our society today ie: youth minister, policeman, fireman, paramedic, judge, medical doctor, nutritionist, exercise specialist, truancy officer, undercover store detective, drug & alcohol counselor and a few more, we feel it's of the utmost importance to plant seeds in children. Hopefully, by reiterating what our camp attendees have already been taught in life by their parents, family, teachers and religious leaders, these children will grow into healthy, happy, productive and successful members of society.
Lastly, we hope to accomplish a win/win situation in every place where we hold our camps.
The last and most important win is that we are trying to make the world a better place!!!
